Sandcastle Building Challenge #1: The Wishing Tree
COST:This is a free event for Sandcastle Teams, Community Builders, and members of the public. Donations are welcome.
WHAT: Tune in for the first in a series of mini design and building challenges to get your creativity flowing ahead of the Sandcastle Classic on October 24th! Leap Teaching Artist Cara Kuroda will lead participants through a 3D building activity to create a Wishing Tree using household materials.
ABOUT THE ACTIVITY:
Everyone loves to wish, whether it be a birthday wish just before you blow out your candles or a wish with a dandelion in your hands. You might toss a coin in a fountain or wish upon a star.
What is the purpose of a wish? Everyone’s wishes are unique. Wishes can reflect something we want in our lives (for us and/or others) such as health and happiness. They can be motivating – “I wish that 2021 will be a great year!” A wish could change the way we think about a situation – “I wish I could make it better.” It could be a start to action – “I wish I were a better cook”. Wishes are optimistic and help us think positively about the future.
The Wishing Tree activity is designed to boost empathy and introspection skills, which are internal to the design thinking process.
The Wishing Tree Mini Build will be led by talented Architecture Teaching Artist, Cara Kuroda. Read all about Cara’s passion for architecture.
